Australian Designer and felt maker Amy Eaton creates designer rugs for kids and babies using fair trade, eco friendly material
Amy 'Larry' Eaton
Amy Eaton, or ‘Larry’ as she is happily known, has a favourite saying "A dull woman has an immaculate house". Well, Amy is far from dull so you can just imagine her house - Its full of fun, laughter and balls of soft brightly coloured felt.
Her whole demeanor lights up when she talks about her 2 adorable little boys. They are the reason she is channeling her creativity into a business that she can run from home and they are also the inspiration for her objects, which she originally designed to brighten up their lives and add a pleasing aesthetic to their rooms.
You can hear in the tone of Amy’s voice that she just adores felting. She is both enchanted by the process which is so raw and full of history and enthused by the way it feels, so tactile organic and easy to use.
Amy has taught and enjoyed felt making for years, using water and soap together with lots and lots of friction to matt the wool fibres together. Now, she outsources the very labour intensive process to a community of women in Nepal who are masters at felt making. This allows Amy to help support the independence of a Nepalese community, achieve a higher quality product and gives her more time to concoct new ideas and piece together her wonderfully bold and energetic designs.
All of Amy's felt objects are made using 100% wool, azo free dyes and are fairtrade.
