Kids Tike balance bike available online made from sustainable plantation timber

Cathy Ballardin

It's a beautiful sunny day in WA and I meet Cathy Ballardin the designer of the Balance Tike bike at her local cafe Yelo, to discuss how the Tike bike came to be. It’s taken awhile to get it perfect, but the outcome is a beautiful eco-friendly sustainable bike for children, sourced from sustainable plantation farms.

As a mum with two young boys, Cathy and her husband struggled to find play items that encouraged experiential learning. There were lots of toys for toddlers that encouraged them to stay inside and stay safe, but few products designed to develop such fundamental skills as balance and coordination. Most of these were aimed at school age children and neglected the tots who are desperate to explore their growing freedom.

Cathy was inspired to make sure her kids grew up balanced and adventurous…..to be curious, confident and capable of making their own fun. Skills that would last them through their lives. The Tike bike was developed to promote a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle. They are designed to ignite a kid’s natural passion for independence, exhilaration and old fashioned, simple fun. By the way, Cathy’s dad is a enthusiastic cyclist and donated his time to test the balance of the bikes. Sometimes its so much fun big kids get involved!
