Eames inspired table

Furniture designer, Simon Parson’s handmade American black walnut Eames inspired table pressed on Australian hoop pine plywood (from sustainable forests)

Details of the Eames inspired table. Beautiful workmanship.

In the 1940s modern furniture designers experimented with wood molding techniques which resulted in the iconic LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) one of the most influential examples of post war American furniture design and also now one of the most popular. If you want a matching table you need to have it custom made. Simon has managed to individually replicate the organic curved shapes into his Eames inspired table. It takes 6-8wks to mould and carve.

Simon in his workshop in Fremantle Western Australia

Seamless 2 pieces of timber have been merged together to create this extended 2.7mtr table to match the Eames

I meet Simon at his Furniture workshop in Fremantle. He’s surrounded with pieces of timber, bowls, and a sketch book with proto-type drawings of his latest ideas.

Simon’s story started 16yrs ago in Australia after arriving from the UK. He studied a BA in furniture and since won an award of Excellence by the Australian Wood Review in the Maximise Competition which acknowledges timber innovation with a Green star rating. His ethos is eco sustainability and he tries to work and live by these ideals. Most of his timbers are milled locally in Fremantle and on the whole are created from fallen wood from around WA. Interestingly, each wooden bowl is identified by place the timber had fallen from, like a wine label origin ie Margaret River and so forth or even a local park.

Simon and his brother Jez, individually make these wooden bowls out of left over wood as gifts to friends. Keeping the original bark essence to the bowls just adds to the beauty and the workmanship.
